EnrollSA, Get Bexar Covered is a collaborative effort to empower individuals to take advantage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in an effort to increase health care coverage in Bexar County. The collaborative includes hospitals, Bexar County, the City of San Antonio, grassroots, and community-based organizations working to make affordable health insurance accessible to our community.
Open Enrollment has ended, but we are still here to help.
Good Evening EnrollSA Partners –
Last week, the U.S. House was expected to vote on the American Health Care Act (AHCA) to replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA); however, as you may have heard, the vote was cancelled and Speak Paul Ryan said, “Obamacare is the law of the land…now we’re going to move on with the rest of our agenda…” Neither Congress nor the President intends to continue with the repeal/replace effort.
What this means for our coalition is that we can now focus on what has always been most important to us—ensuring every person in our community has access to quality, affordable health coverage. We will continue to educate, enroll, and promote the ACA in the San Antonio area and look forward to the start of the next open enrollment period on November 1st. In the meantime, we want to ensure that potential consumers know that they may still qualify for coverage under special enrollment period (SEP) guidelines, and we want current consumers to maximize the use of their current health care coverage.
We would also like to pass along the following note from Anne Dunkelberg at the Center for Public Policy Priorities (CPPP) in Austin, and specifically thank the members of our local San Antonio area delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives, Congressman Castro, Congressman Cuellar, and Congressman Doggett for their continued and unwavering support of the ACA—and the well-being and health of our community.
“We applaud the members of Congress from both parties who recognized the dangers of this scheme. Texas has so much to lose, already with more uninsured residents than any other state. Texas has made unprecedented insurance coverage gains under the Affordable Care Act (or Obamacare). Today’s vote protects the health care – for now — of millions of Texans.”
Be encouraged that our work has been recognized, supported, and has not been done in vain—and that we have had a direct impact on saving people’s lives and changing the trajectories of their family trees. We appreciate every one of you as a valued member of this coalition, and we look forward—now more than ever—to continuing to improve the state of healthcare in Texas.
